Please let her be deleted from the DC universe post-flashpoint. There is no valid reason for Power Girl. Her costume is sexist. Her personality is basically “A GIRL WHO HAS A LITTLE ATTITUDE BUT NOT TOO MUCH” She is…
Then suddenly I feel awkward because usually I am like BLOND AND BLUE-EYED HEROINES STOP CLONING YOURSELVES.
> Her personality is basically “A GIRL WHO HAS A LITTLE ATTITUDE BUT NOT TOO MUCH”
- Essentially applies to a lot of characters; not strictly female or male.
- For the most part, yes, her costume is often used for cheesecake and grossly sexist images because she’s canonly a curvy woman which means male artists tend to subject her to the ~STRAIGHT CIS MALE GAZE~ It’s awful and embarrassing. BUT!!! The costume itself is not sexist. That’s like saying anything revealing a woman wears is sexist. Okay, comic characters have no agency of their own and therefore are relegated to whatever editorial, writers and artists want to depict but see, Peej’s costume has always been about power and pride. In her own words, she is not ashamed to wear that costume. It shows her for what she identifies and feels comfortable as; a healthy and strong woman. To her, if men want to ogle and degrade themselves by lowering themselves to drooling fools, that’s their problem and loss. She’s not going to apologize for it.
Ignore what JSA: Classified said — IT WAS TERRIBLE.
- Useless? She’s not only a superheroine, she runs a company that tries to better the ecological problems of the planet when she’s not punching problems in the face.
- Seriously guys, she’s got a bit of an attitude problem (also she’s not a girl… she’s very much an adult woman) and depending on who’s drawing or writing, that boob window can be problematic but it’s not her. It’s whoever at DC chooses to convey her as a shallow, sexy piece of meat and not delve into what makes her appealing to fans.
- Anyway, combating sexism should not equal DELETE ALL THE SEXUALLY PROVOCATIVE HEROINES OR COVER ‘EM UP. That’s not solving a problem, it’s just adding to it.
